課程要求
Participation 20%

First, you are expected to come to lectures prepared to participate meaningfully in discussions demonstrating that you have absorbed required readings and have thought critically about key questions posed by the discussion leader. Second, you are required to post at least one discussion question related to required readings in NTU COOL no later than midnight on the Sunday night before the week of class. Third, you are encouraged to share news and current events related to this course before our formal discussion.

Attendance is required because consistent attendance is a prerequisite for effective participation. Unexcused absences, non-participation and coming to class unprepared will result in a lower grade. Students claiming an excused absence must email me before class and provide appropriate documentation.

If you have particular concerns or anxieties about participating in class discussion, please talk to me about it early in the semester. I will gladly work with you over the course of the semester to make your participation less stressful and more effective.

Discussion Leader 20%

You will be organized into learning groups, and your group will serve as a discussion leader twice (or more) during this semester. As a discussion leader, your group needs to generate slides which include a critical review of required readings on that date and at least three discussion questions. The critical review should summarize the main argument and indicate major strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement of the required article. The slides should be posted on the discussion page in NTU COOL no later than midnight on the Sunday night before the week of class to which your group is assigned. Your group must be prepared to help lead the discussion in class, by asking questions and making comments

Critical Review 20%

You will have a short paper assignment of no more than five pages (double space) in length. You should choose one article from required or optional readings, and write a critical review of that article. In the critical review, you should summarize the main argument and indicate major strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement of the article you choose. This paper should be uploaded to NTU COOL no later than midnight on the Sunday night before the week of class to which the article is assigned. Additional details on this assignment will be provided in NTU COOL.

Group Project 40%

You will be organized into groups to complete an academic project. Your group should choose a topic related to this course and discuss your topic with the instructor. The project should include research questions, literature review, arguments and hypotheses, research design, preliminary findings, conclusion, and bibliography. You will have a chance to present your group project in week 15. This project should be uploaded to NTU COOL before 6/16, midnight. Additional details on this assignment will be provided in NTU COOL.
